Prayer Counselor Ministry Training

Please note: Prayer Counselor Ministry Training is not being offered at this time as we are currently working on making it available on DVDs

If we expect the Lord to minister to others, we should also expect the people of God to be adequately trained to be the channel that God will work through. Since that is our expectation, we need to be prepared. It is our desire that the saints be adequately equipped for whatever they face in ministry. Though no course will adequately train everyone for every situation, it is our desire the Christian have a good ministry foundation. Because of that, we annually conduct our prayer Counseling Ministry training course. This basic course on ministry has been taught by Pastor Rodney Hogue for the past 16 years. It was originally developed to equip the local congregation, but has spread now to include many different churches from around the Bay Area.

Why Would I Want to Attend This Course?

There are two main reasons why people attend the course. First all all, many want to be personal recipients of healing and ministry. Another reason is that many just want to become equipped to minister to others. It is interesting that for one to impart healing and ministry to others, God will often take us through the process of healing and restoration ourselves. In this course, you will see the healing process that God brings us through to attain wholeness in Christ. We cover areas such as understanding our identity in Christ and the process of sanctification. the course lays a foundation for receiving healing and ministry as we become whole in Christ. In the course, you will also receive training for ministering to the emotional and physical needs of people. This training enables us to be consistent as a church in ministering to others. This is NOT a training to be a "professional counselor". We will also offer some other advanced training events for those who go through the course more than once. The advanced training will be periodically offered at the same time as the regular mnistry course and will focus more on "hands on" ministering to others.

How Do I Register for the Course?

Please fill out the registration form and return it to Community of Grace as soon as possible. This will help us prepare sufficient materials.

When Are the Training Sessions?

The course is made up of five training sessions. These sessions are spaced out over a seven-month period beginning in May and ending in November. In between each session there will be some required reading to support what you just learned, and some to prepare you for what is ahead. the training sessions themselves are on Saturdays. The times are listed below.

Topics of each training weekend:

#1 The Basics of Wholeness in Christ
#2
Inner Healing
#3
Freedom From Areas of Bondage
#4
Physical Healing
#5
Wrap Up & Ministering at the Altar

What will be Required?

  • Send in the registration form. (Attached - Bottom)
  • Attend all the Prayer Couseling training weekends.
  • Read all the assigned books.

Each Prayer Counseling Ministry class is built on the foundation that was laid in the previous training session and the required books. To maintain your course membership, you must attend the classes and read the assigned material. If you miss a session without contacting the Community of Grace office, we will assume that you have chosen to drop the ministry course. We encourage getting into this course when it begins in May since each Prayer Counseling session is built on having received the previous teaching.
In order to be considered as having "completed" the course, a person must attend all five sessions within a two year period. It will be your responsibility to check your name off on the attendance sheet at each class to insure that we have a record of your attendance.

What If I don't Attend Community of Grace?

You don't have to be a member of Community of Grace to enroll. However, we do recommend that you inform your pastor of your choice to attend.

What Will the Course Cost Me?

You will need to purchase your own books. You might want a large 3-ring binder to put your notes in. We'll provide the rest at no charge to you.

Is There Child Care?

We do have child care workers available on Saturdays to watch children up through 6th grade. However, we need to know in advance how many will be there so we can be prepared. We will also have a "donation basket" for parents to help offset our child care costs. If you don't let us know in advance, and if we don't have enough help, your child may be turned away. Parents, this is really important.

What Books Are Required Reading?

The books on the mandatory reading list should be read as listed. You will be responsible for securing your own books from a Christian bookstore or book catalogue. Occasionally, we will order some of the required books not available in the bookstores so you can purchase them from us. We will inform you throughout the course if we will stock or order particular books.
