Worship

At Steps of Grace, worship is a top priority of our Christ-centered Twelve Step Program. God designed each one of us to be worshipers and has knitted worship into the fabric of our beings. If we don’t worship God, we’ll worship something or someone else. Most of us understand this concept, for it was very likely that misdirected worship caused us to need recovery in the first place.

We begin with worship on Tuesday nights in order to prepare ourselves for what God wants to speak into our hearts that night. We have found that when we worship, He reminds us that He never loses sight of us and that His great love and faithfulness will surround us even when we have fallen short of His glory.

Worship is the act of freely giving oneself to God. It is an expression of our love, gratitude, thankfulness, awe, respect and submission to Him. We lift Him up and exalt Him because He is God—holy, righteous and perfect in all His ways! He is the Creator of all that is and He is worthy of our praise and worship. He is also the One who has redeemed us from the pit of our addictions. He has offered us new life and the hope of a new beginning.

Worship is a means of communicating with God and allowing Him to communicate with us. Through singing and praying, we come into His presence and express what is in our hearts and souls. Sometimes we joyfully celebrate and praise Him for what He is doing in our lives; other times we cry out to Him to do something in our lives! Worship is also a time of meditating and reflecting on our relationship with the Lord and with others. He may call to our mind some area of disharmony or failure that we need to confess so that we can receive forgiveness.

Giving is an important aspect of worship. Because Christ gave His life for us, we desire to give our whole lives to God and recognize His ownership over everything. We take an offering so that each one of us can give as part of our worship. The amount isn't really important. What does matter is that it flows out of hearts of love, gratitude, and obedience to God. It is a means of telling Him we know that He owns everything, that we’re thankful for what He has entrusted to us, and that we want to partner with what He is doing to touch other lives.

It is our hope and prayer that as you join us here for an evening at Steps of Grace that you will encounter God, you will be drawn into His presence and, if you’re not already, you will become a worshiper of Him.
