Jim Newman, Pastor of Recovery and Pastoral Care

Jim NewmanJim Newman has been a part of Community of Grace since 1985, serving voluntarily in a variety of areas. He joined the church staff in 1998, serving as Youth Pastor until 2004. In 1999, he was licensed to preach and in 2000 he was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel.

Jim also became involved with the church’s recovery ministry and has been involved with the recovery ministry since 1990. He became the Pastor of Recovery in January of 2006, and still serves in that role at this time. In 2006, Jim also began serving as the Healthy Church Coordinator for the East Bay Baptist Association, and is still currently working with the pastors and churches of the association to help the churches in becoming stronger and healthier. As of late 2007, Jim’s role has expanded at Community of Grace to include Pastor of Pastoral Care. Jim’s function in the Pastoral Care role will be seen as an extension of our Senior Pastor, Rodney Hogue, as well as ministering to the needs of the congregation and being involved in various group ministries.

In addition to ministry, Jim is also passionate about art. Jim now enjoys it as a hobby, but had aspired to pursue it as a career prior to his call to the ministry. Jim has done artwork professionally, having attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco and completing his studies with the Art Instruction School of Minneapolis.
