Speaking in Tongues summary

I got impatient and jumped to a summary. I'll get back to the details, and move this to the end and give it a number.

A few Bible facts:
1. Speaking in tongues is associated with receiving the Spirit in the Book of Acts, as one of the immediate results of the Spirit coming upon people. Acts 2.4; 10.44; 19.6.
2. The Holy Spirit is the source for speaking in tongues. Acts 2:4.

4. Speaking in tongues edifies the speaker (1 Cor 14:4). [I need that!]
5. The content of speaking in tongues may be praise (Acts 2:11), prayer (1 Cor 14:2,14,15), mysteries between the believer and God (1 Cor 14:2), or blessing (1 Cor 14:16). There may be much more, as this "list" was not be intended to be exhaustive.
6. Speaking in tongues may be part of corporate praise (Acts 2:4; 10:44; 19:6).

9. Speaking in tongues in under the control of the speaker. He can speak in tongues whenever he wants, even at inappropriate times (1 Cor 14:15-17, 27-32).
10. Praying in tongues is praying with the spirit (1 Cor 14:14,15).
11. Singing in tongues is singing with the spirit. (1 Cor 14:15). [really cool!]
12. Paul wishes we all spoke in tongues (1 Cor 14:5).
13. Paul was thankful he spoke in tongues more than others (1 Cor 14:18).
14. In ministry, prophecy is superior to speaking in tongues (1 Cor 14:3-5, 18-19).

Thoughts
Do not call common or insignificant that which God has cleansed, what God has given (Acts 10:15; 1 Cor 14:18,39). Do not say this is not for you. (1 Cor 14:15 "I WILL pray with the spirit").
Do not neglect, but stir up the gift (2 Tim 1:6).
