Snow White

I watched Snow White today. The cartoon, Disney one. I found out that her and I have some things in common. We both love to clean and we do a good job at it. We both love to sing. We both have dreams that we know will come true someday. We both fell asleep. She woke up, but I haven’t… and I’m going to say yet.

The Queen, in disguise, gave her that shiny red apple lying to her and telling Snow White that if she took one bite that all of her dreams would come true. Instead of a Happily Ever After right there, she fell asleep. The dwarfs and her woodland animal friends thought she was dead, never to be alive again. They all cried, wept. It was the saddest day of their lives. The tears and heavy hearts stayed for months afterwards. I actually started crying. I’ve never cried watching this movie.

‘So beautiful, even in death, that the dwarfs could not find it in their hearts to bury her.’
She slept in a coffin above the ground under a beautiful tree. She was close to death in that coffin but she was only dormant. The rays of sun shined down only on her. The dwarfs and animals visited her everyday and surrounded the coffin with flowers. It was obviously beautiful around her but she couldn’t see any of it because of what she was going through.

Then one day her Prince came. He came to wake her up. It was time for her dreams to start coming true. He kissed her and waited. Her eyes fluttered open, she stretched all of that sleep and sorrow away and sat up fully alive. The dwarfs were shocked! The Prince took her in his arms. Then the smiles broke loose. Everyone was celebrating and dancing around. The weight had been lifted not only from Snow White but from everyone she knew that cared about her. The Prince placed her on his white horse and off they went to his castle to live Happily Ever After.

Snow White had sung, ‘Someday when my dreams come true’ before her slumber when her days were bright. I’m sure even if she was just ill instead of sleeping she would be singing the same thing in those dark nights. For, after she ran through the woods and fell to the ground terrified, she asked the birds, “What do you do when things go wrong?” The birds started singing. “Oh, you sing a song!” Snow White then sang this song:

With a smile and a song
Life is just like a bright sunny day
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young

With a smile and a song
All the world seems to waken anew
Rejoicing with you
As the song is sung

There's no use in grumbling
When the raindrops come tumbling
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with sunshine

When you smile and you sing
Everything is in tune and it's spring
And life flows along
With a smile and a song

Needless to say, I’ve been learning/getting some things from Snow White today. She’s pretty encouraging. Plus the huge fact that she was asleep for a few seasons and then woke up. Just watching it all play out was pretty emotional for me because I expect that to happen to me too. That I’ll wake up someday from my slumber. In the meantime, I will keep my Hope and sing a song.

Enchanted

You bring to memory one of my favorites, much newer, "Enchanted".
